Although the Golden Horde are now back at war with Poland and the Ottomans, our manpower is in such bad shape that as soon as Bessarabia defects to us, we gladly accept their concession of defeat shortly after to get a 5 year truce as a breather to replenish. I guess the bitter fighing to the end has been postponed. :) We did grab Ruthenia and Bessarabia off the Golden Horde during this war, though. Clearly, chipping away at them is the way to go until your manpower is so overwhelming that you can just stay at war with them indefinitely. The mighty Burgundy ends up down to a mere 33 thousand troops, easily outmatched by the Golden Horde. Colonization to the west has been a great success, though. Too slow, Portugal! Out of the blue, we get a border friction CB on Bremen. Tactics at this early stage of the game are to grab lots of land as our infamy limit is high, and have plenty of time to work off the infamy. We don't get the infamy for unlawful HRE territory because we're not actually in the HRE. This whole ruling over an empire we're not actually a part of thing rocks! So, war it is. Our armies have recovered somewhat. The Hansa quickly lose the war and cede Bremen to us. We cancel a boring mission to get a much more interesting one - to vassalize... erm, Bremen. The nation of Bremen owns the province of Stade, now, so that's what we're really attacking. Various nations come in to defend Bremen when we declare war, but one of the best bonuses is Aachen, as they are the current (and probably future) tech leaders. It's always good to keep the leading tech OPM around as a vassal to allow them to do really well in tech and keep giving you tech bonuses, while protecting them from takeover from other powers. Therefore we decide to vassalize Aachen as part of this war, too. We easily vassalize Bremen, but Holland has become the leader of their side of the war now. Glancing at our infamy, we spot an opportunity to snatch a few more vassals for Burgundy. Is our infamy less than 4 below its limit? Nope? Then we vassalize. Before the end of the war we vassalize Hesse and Münster. Finally, we get rid of Holland's core on Utrecht to end the war. While this has been going on, 5 game years have passed and our truce with the Golden Horde is up. Sure enough, in March 1447, we're at war with them again. Although our armies are all pretty much back to full strength, the manpower hasn't yet recovered to replenish them when we lose men. The very tough conflict resumes. Still, it's back to the grindstone of the eastern war. I guess there's no rest for the wicked...
